See You After Labor Day

I’ll be traveling until September 3 and won’t have access to O&C.

I leave you with proof of my Grand Slam. (Btw, Apologies to my teammates who normally had much better rounds than this. It was just too good not to post. 😀 Hope you understand.)

It would appear that Gameloft did not thoroughly test this latest version of Order & Chaos before releasing it to the public. Sadly, all of these great new features are marred by the thick nasty stench of release bugs. Complaints about the black screen of death, downtime, flight point and wing issues, targeting issues, and messed up skills are dominating the forums. Half of my guild is black screened and the other half are DPS classes, so dungeon runs are rarely happening. My healer is black screened as well so I haven’t been able to explore the nerfs that people are raging about.

Luckily Col.Awesome was able to login yesterday morning without any trouble. First I checked the souls vendor for new items and to my disappointment the only new item is a mount for 900 souls. I picked up the new dailies, which are somewhat more interesting than the old dailies. I stood around chit-chatting and was blown away when Tango AOE blessed about 50 people. Tip: be careful who is nearby when you buff as you might inadvertently PVP tag yourself.

Afterward I traveled to GM and picked up the introductory quests for PVP and mounts. I went to the mounts manager first and purchased the first two mount licenses for my elf. I talked to the vendor behind him and my jaw dropped at his 2k pricetag for a stupid deer. I do not have 2k to burn right now, so I turned around and ran as fast as I could to the PVP zone. I spoke with an NPC at the entrance and he was very rude:

Aside from the glitches, of which there are many, the arenas are really cool. I’ve played many amazingly skilled teams and equally as many totally inept teams. Regardless of the outcome, I’ve always had fun. The match making system works pretty well from what I’ve seen, although sometimes you enter arenas without your partner. The arena layouts are a wee bit tiny, but I suppose that’s necessary when 8 rangers just sneak around the whole time.

I played three 2v2 matches to start out. Here was my first victory:

First Arena Victory

First Arena Victory

I came back later with three other rangers from my guild and we tried 4v4. I think our record was 1-10. Ouch.

This morning I did PVP for an hour or so with a friendly warrior named Lochie from the Champagne guild. We talked in between matches and split our matches evenly between victories and defeats. We beat some pretty solid players in this one:

Mmmmmhmmmm!

Mmmmmhmmmm!

Although they beat us twice in retaliation, for example:

Dead :/

Dead :/

The new PVP gear looks interesting, but I’ll probably just skip everything except the [Brutal Combatant’s Bone Hunting Bow] for novelty and the Monk’s [Brutal Combatant’s Bone Staff], which actually looks great for PVE.

I’m excited about the new features and I can’t wait for GL to fix the issues. Other posts to follow, stay tuned.

Col.Awesome: Anata’s View and Shadow Dancer’s Gloves

leave a comment »

*DragonBorn* invited me into another Kha-Anata group, but this time the group needed a DPS. Since I have a mage and a healer, I rarely get to run dungeons on my archer Col.Awesome. This was to be his first time in GSL since the day that GSL was released!

Compared to my typical Kha-Anata role of healing, being an archer was incredibly relaxing. Healers monitor everybody’s health and mana, cast spells on four different targets, watch the text chat box for boss yells, and occasionally check Kha-Anata’s health to track dungeon progress. The only hiccup for my archer was when my O&C game client crashed after the second vine. I came back to only two poison stacks because of a pretty stellar team.

On the first set of vines, my goal was to stun and deal massive damage. So on the first vine, I used Sneak and Rapid-Shot for the stun followed by Snipe and Rapid Shot. On the second, I used Cutthroat (I have Apnea) and Split Shot, which was dumb since I hit the third vine and Kha-Anata. This caused the game to crashed– I guess not too many people in the testing department were lame enough to do that.

I logged back into O&C and appeared next to Kha-Anata. I immediately fired off an Avulsion Shot as I settled into position behind him and then proceeded to annihilate Kha-Anata with a continuous stream of Rapid Shots. When the first vine popped, I used Split Shot, Switch Target, Snipe, and Rapid Shot until the vine died. I repeated this rotation on subsequent vines, adding Cutthroat if I was nearby or low on vigor.

I didn’t snipe Anata until the very end when our tank logged for some reason. Anyone know why?

I was rewarded with the T2 [Shadow Dancer’s Gloves] for sins and [Anata’s View]! It may be a while before I can run with Col.Awesome again, so this was a huge win for me!

Anata's View Drop

Anata’s View Drop

I did some comparisons of equipping different combinations of the following trinkets: [Anata’s View], [Rune’s Fingerstall], and [Robust Brand].

Time to cut my losses. I’m all crit now, so that’s it for the [Robust Brand]. Perhaps tomorrow’s update will change things? Either way it is in the storage bin for now.

oacplayer.com Stats for Fun

with 2 comments

I installed Google Analytics on this site just for fun. If you are afraid of Google tracking you around the web, join the club, but they have the best JS powered analytics engine. If you are still afraid, don’t be because everybody uses them. Still afraid? Get Ghostery.

Want to see the numbers? What… No?! [Gasp] OK!

OacPlayer Traffic: July 21 - August 20

OacPlayer Traffic: July 21 – August 20

Some things worth mentioning:

  • As a rule of thumb, a 50 percent bounce rate is average. If you surpass 60 percent, you should be concerned. If you’re in excess of 80 percent, you’ve got a major problem. Some article that Wikipedia quoted

My bounce rate is hideously high at 64%, but perhaps not a major problem. Some people only use me for the leatherworking and tailoring guides and then leave without a word. 😦 (j/k) Others don’t expect to find a dorky iOS video game– I suppose that the name Order & Chaos does sound pretty philosophical. Lastly, the writing is pretty atrocious.

The dreaded red F with a circle around it.

The dreaded red F with a circle around it.

  • Gameloft announcements cause the view counts to spike. I wonder what happens when the update hits?
  • Most of you spend about a minute on each page that you read. That’s pretty impressive. Actually, it’s much more likely that you are just skimming– cheaters. SMH

Ok, ok. In all honesty, 5000+ page views in a month is pretty awesome. Thank you all for reading. +1 Internet to each of you, my friends.

Let the good times roll.

Doc.Awesome: Dying Power Staff

with 2 comments

Ran GSL twice last night and scored a [Dying Power Staff] and another [Essence of Saithion]. Both runs were guild runs with Your-Name, Snake, and Abaddon. After an initial wipe, we managed both runs very well. GSL is pretty much becoming automatic.

Here is the staff drop:

Dying Power Staff Drop!

Dying Power Staff Drop!

And here is a comparison of equipping the [Dying Power Staff] versus a [Crystal Skull Dagger] and [Hammer of Honor] combination.

As you can see, the latter comes out on top due to the massive increase in healing power. I can’t go for my new Healer spec though without a staff. Very tough call; will have to wait until the update to decide.

So no change in gear for now.

GSL Sessions: Lava-Covered Halberd

with 2 comments

Had a nice, three-run GSL session that included a combination of ςolidςηακε from my guild ShadowRiders and nickh4sdawg, *DragonBorn*, and Cavman of Amnesia (too many crazy symbols in this sentence to type out). We had one wipe at the very beginning from an ill timed vine pop, alt spawn, and aoe blast, but the rest went fine. nickh4sdawg was solid at managing his mana so I never had to worry about anything but health and my own mana. The rest of the team was also fantastic.

The highlight of the run had to be the [Lava-Covered Halberd] that dropped in Kha-Anata’s chest. *DragonBorn* got it and man did he look sweet with it on. It even made him jump higher! Check it out:

Lava-Covered Halberd!!

On our next run, I picked up a pair of [Burning Thorn Gloves]. More mili gear (see last post for my new mili pants lol)! Is Order and Chaos trying to tempt me over to the dark side of the monk? I won’t budge, damnit!

Burning Thorn Gloves, Reagent for T2 Mili Gloves

Looking forward to more runs. Would love to get a [Lava-blossomed Hammer], but I’ll settle for some T2 monk gear, I suppose. 😉

GSL.noob

I tried the Lower City just hours after update five was released. I joined a guild run on my archer– my only toon at the time– and scored some pointless [Darkmantle Gloves] from Titehelm. Note that this was our first Legendary attempt, so whenever people say that Titehelm is hard– well– eat it.

On that first run I was given the task of applying the potions to Titehelm because, as my guildmates put it, “rangers have it easiest.” They were right of course; I was pretty bored with the class. It was always difficult to find dungeon groups and I never got any respect.

The Late Rodney Dangerfield

The Late Rodney Dangerfield

So I decided to branch out and level a Mage. Around level 45, I left Sovereign/Chosen for my current mellow guild, ShadowRiders. After gearing my Mage, I leveled a medic and repeated the pre-GSL dungeon monotony for a while.

Fast forward to now– I keep a “strict” daily O&C time limit, unlike you addicts. 😉 It was only recently that I revisited The Lower City. To be honest, I don’t know why we still call it GSL when it’s really just KAL (Kha-Anata Legendary). Perhaps that will change on Thursday of next week? After a few failed attempts on Mage.Awesome, I finally got one win under my belt with Stormsy and Darthius.

Another few weeks passed and I tried it again on my healer. Since then I’ve had several successful runs playing healer with my guild mates, including Your-Name, Torgon, Abaddon, and Freque. I’ve mastered the art of timely logging when everyone dies, and I’ve gotten a feel for how the battle progresses. Last night, I got my first drops: some totally useless [Charged Monk Pants] and an [Essence of Saithion]. Actually I take that back; the [Charged Monk Pants] look p.sweet with no robe and a red shirt.

Doc.Awesome looking YYAARRRRR with a Red Shirt and Charged Monk Pants

Starting at 8-9 PM PDT for every night this week, I’m running GSL once. Yes, that’s my life now you GSL-exhausted bastard. You think I’m jelous? Whatevz. 😀
